Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais), after years as a struggling actor determined to make it big, has landed a pilot for his sitcom script - 'When the Whistle Blows'. This despite the best efforts of his useless agent, Darren Lamb (Stephen Merchant). Meanwhile, Andy's gaff-prone and lame-brained best friend, Maggie (Ashley Jensen) comes close to screwing up Andy's big break, but their friendship wins through in the end.

Will Andy get the recognition he craves? Will Darren become the mover and shaker he is so ill-suited to be? Will Maggie manage to keep a relationship going for more than a few weeks? Will these questions be answered?
